Welcome to the Delhi Rail Trail! This converted railway corridor, known as the old CN Rail Line, connects the neighbouring towns of Simcoe and Delhi and is part of the Trans Canada Trail network.
The idea for this rail to trail project sparked in 2006 and the Delhi Rail Trail Initiative committee was formed under the leadership of Frances Edmonds. The committee did a lot of behind the scenes work and when Norfolk County received Recreational Infrastructure Canada funding, the Community Services Department lead the actual trail development.
The Delhi Rail Trail is just one more connecting piece of the amazing trail network in Norfolk County. And it’s waiting for you to walk, cycle and ski!
Rail Trail Network
Norfolk County has 45km of converted rail trails. Starting at the trail access point at Lions Park on Davis Street in Simcoe, it is:
- 15.4 km west to Fertilizer Road, just east of Delhi on the Delhi Rail Trail
Increasing Accessibility
A number of features increase accessibility for trail users.
- Trail surface is crushed stone
- Gate openings: 1 metre minimum to allow room for wheelchairs, bike trailers, etc. to pass through.
- Average grade: 2% maximum
- Cross slope: 2% maximum
- Surface width: 2.5 metres
- Slope: maximum 15%
